This magnificent installation on the island of Alacatraz, America’s most notorious penitentiary, was created by Chinese artist, activist and political dissident Ai Weiwei, who is currently under house arrest in China. It’s a beautiful homage to the hundreds of individuals around the world imprisoned or in exile from their governments for dissent. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the show in its final week. it is SO funny that we were there the same day. i can’t believe it….
i’m glad i went. i had some problems with the installation, but it’s always good to see something so massive and collectively organized. also i really really enjoyed the audio tour of the prison itself. amazing place.
