A entertaining romp around Los Angeles in 1970, packaged in period appropriate crime caper wrappings. As so common in this genre, the story pits 60s/70s counterculture against the mainstream establishment, but without the dogmatic clichés so typical of films from that time. The film looks at the era with the cynical lens of the modern age, with pervasive corruption at every level. There are no good guys, only amoral ones, unwittingly ignorant ones or those too stoned to care. The film is ripe with references to the absurdity of the era and it makes for a really enjoyable movie watching experience. A visual treat from start to finish, rich in playful period details. —Maja Brugos
